3D’S WEEKLY NEWS
MAY 14-18
A PEEK AT 3D’S WEEK:
· Writer’s Workshop: We will begin our poetry unit. This week we will write shape poems. The students will choose an object (flower, football, etc.) and write words that describe the object. The words will be outlining the shape. We will also write Thank You letters to Donors Choose for our classroom library.
· Reading: We will read the nonfiction narrative Crinkleroot’s Guide to Knowing Animal Habitats. The vocabulary words are habitat, rich, variety, patch, migrating, vast, prey, and recognize.
· Spelling/ Grammar: Predict the spelling of words with “ch” and “tch”; Spell words that begin with “ca, co, cu, cl, cr”; Identify spelling, punctuation, and capitalization errors in a paragraph
· Math: Show fractional parts of a group (Example: What is ¼ of a group of 8 counters?); Locating fractions on a number line
· Handwriting: Uppercase cursive A, C, O, U, and V
· Social Studies: We will discuss different levels of government and public/private services. We will also will start chapter 12, “How do you have a voice in your community?”

· Ellis Island field trip, May 25th- Permission slips and money are due on Monday, May 21st.
· Spring Concert, June 13th, 9:00am
· Third Grade End-of-the-Year Picnic, June 18th

HOME LEARNING · Math: An activity will be sent home on Thursday. · Practice writing words with uppercase cursive A, C, O, U, and V. (Atlantic, Connecticut, Oregon, Uranus, Vermont, etc.) The students can use their handwriting notebooks to practice. · Use the reading vocabulary words in sentences (orally or written)
