This week 2T focused on the following concepts:
· Social Studies: We finished the chapter about how communities can change by having groups present the improvements they made to a neglected community. We learned about how LA has changed over time and students took the end of chapter quiz. · Science: We continued our study of weather and the water cycle this week. We did an experiment to see if water evaporates from covered and uncovered cups and found that it only evaporates when the cup is uncovered. We also found that water evaporates more quickly when it is in a wider container. Students are learning the lyrics to a song describing the water cycle to present next week at Town Meeting. · Math: In math this week we continued our unit on money. We practiced using decimal notation for money amounts (ex: $4.21), learned how to enter money amounts on calculators, and solved word problems involving comparing prices. Keep practicing those addition facts at home! · Language Arts: In writers’ workshop we have been researching for our informational books about space. Students read books about their topic and searched online to answer their questions. We learned how to take notes about information in our own words. In reading we read The Boy on Fairfield Street, a biography about Dr. Seuss. Students are working on interviewing each other to write biographies about our classmates.
